MELIKA SALIHBEG BOSNAWI (former SALIHBEGOVIĆ)
DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH:
January 1945, Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina.
EDUCATION:
PRIMARY: Primary school, Sarajevo.
SECONDARY: Classical Gymnasium (Latin & Greek), Sarajevo.
HIGH: Faculty of Political Sciences, with part-time parallel study of Philosophy and Comparative literature at the Philosophical Faculty, University of Zagreb.
POST-DEGREE: Contemporary Philosophy at Philosophical faculty, University of Sarajevo, followed by:
FREE-RESEARCH: on the Master degree thesis: "Ontology of Modern Art", at the College de France, Paris, and Post-degree course at Philosophical faculty, Nanntere, on a French government scholarship.
LATER STUDY (interrupted by political ordeal following the very first year):
ARABIC & PERSIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE, Philosophical faculty, University of Sarajevo, Cathedra of Oriental studies.
- Twice imprisoned by ex-Yu Communist Regime.
- Twice listed by Amnesty International's list as a "Prisoners of conscience".
- During exile in London, under the protection and care of the "Medical Foundation for the Protection and Care for the Victims of Torture".
- Included in the International PEN actions for the liberation of the imprisoned authors.
- Mother of a son.
